Article Multilayered identity of the Arkhangelsk region in the context of macroregional integration
Authors Akisheva V.D., Moscow Architectural Institute (State Academy), Moscow, Russia
Abstract The article addresses the issue of identifying regional identity under the influence of external macro-regional structures. The aim of the study is to test a method for analyzing cross-cutting indicators, which allows for tracing the stability and transformation of a territory's spatial characteristics across different historical periods. The method is based on a matrix of five indicators: settlement principles, city-forming function, type of development, building materials, and vectors of external relations. Testing this method on the Arkhangelsk region showed that its identity is shaped by three macro-regional integrations: the cultural and historical heritage of the Russian North, the geopolitical objectives of the Russian Arctic Zone (AZRF), and cross-border cooperation within the Barents Euro-Arctic Region (BEAR). As a result, five stable layers of identity were identified, the superimposition of which creates a complex, multi-layered structure of the region's space and its cities. The proposed method can be applied to the analysis of other constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
