Article	Spatial organization of the Chukotka autonomous district. Part I. Formation of the settlement system

Abstract	The article raises the issue of the formation of the settlement system of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug from ancient times to the beginning of the 20th century. It examines the factors that influenced the spatial organization of the region in its early stages, including the climatic conditions and their dynamic changes, which influenced migration processes, the types and forms of traditional economic activities, the ethnic zoning of the region and the dynamics of settlement, and the influence of explorers and foreign expansion on the formation of the spatial organization of the region. These issues are considered as a basis for the subsequent intensive development in the 20th century and further analysis of the current development prospects.
