Article A digital method for studying the role of greening parameters in assessing the quality of the urban environment
Authors Kutaliia E.I., Mityagin S.A., ITMO University, Saint Petersburg, Russia
Abstract The article examines the role of greenery parameters, such as type, stories, and dimensions of green spaces, in assessing the quality of the urban environment. Greenery parameters include the type of green space, its layering, and its dimensions. An analysis of existing approaches to assessing the impact of greenery on the urban environment and research in this area revealed that, despite the importance of greenery parameters in practical methods, green spaces are considered in general terms. Taking these greenery parameters into account, we defined values for the impact of greenery on reducing noise and wind loads, dust retention, minimizing the impact of development scale, and reducing carbon dioxide levels in the air. As a result, a method for assessing the quality of the urban environment based on greenery parameters was developed and tested in the city of St. Petersburg. The necessary data on green spaces for the selected site was collected. The method was implemented using Python programming language, geomodeling, and visualization of results in QGIS. The results clearly demonstrated the importance of taking into account landscaping parameters in a modern urban environment and can serve as a basis for developing recommendations for improving its quality.
Keywords: green spaces, ecological framework of the city, quality of the urban environment, greenery, index of quality of the urban environment
