Principles of organizing interdisciplinary spaces on university campuses: a review of international practice

Abstract
Russia is currently implementing a large-scale program to develop university campuses as part of the federal Priority 2030 initiative and the national Youth and Children project. According to data from Procampus.rf, the official platform of the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, by early 2026, more than fifteen inter-university campuses will be at the design stage. These projects represent multifunctional urban educational complexes providing shared infrastructure for learning, research, and creative activities for students and faculty from different institutions. Similar developments are also observed internationally. The article addresses the organization of interdisciplinary spaces within university campuses. Based on the analysis of implemented projects and conceptual models, architectural strategies that facilitate interaction between students and faculty are identified. The principles of compactness, visual connectivity, slow routes, and clustering are formulated and examined.
